The loss of their daughter has been devastating, but waitress Kayla Lane's act of kindness made the Riddle family's day a little brighter.
One Texas waitress’s simple act of kindness toward a grieving family has gone viral. Kayla Lane, a server at West Side Café in Fort Worth, Texas, was on familiar terms with two regulars, Shaun and Debbie Riddle, who had dined at the restaurant frequently since the birth of their infant daughter, Glory. When Kayla asked about the child the last time they dined at West Side Café, she was shocked to learn that at the tender age of 9 weeks, Glory had tragically never woken up from a nap.
“I’m like, ‘Oh gosh, I made them remember!' even though it’s going through their minds all day, every day,” Lane told CBS Dallas.
At the end of the meal, Lane handed the desolate couple a note that read: “Your ticket has been paid for. We are terribly sorry for your loss. God Bless. — The West Side.”
A manager with the West Side Café confirmed that the restaurant did not pay for the tab. In fact, Lane had paid for the couple out of her own pocket. The manager said that this is a habit of Lane’s, who often will anonymously pick up the tab for service members and firefighters.
Debbie Riddle was so touched that she wrote a post about the act of kindness on Facebook. It has since been “liked” 15,000 times.
“We hear so much negativity on the news and so that is why I felt led to share this story in hopes that Kayla and this restaurant will get some good recognition,” Debbie wrote.
