The Marina Del Rey Hotel and its signature restaurant, SALT, have reopened after a $25 million makeover.

Walking into the redesigned Marina Del Rey Hotel, guests immediately feel a Miami vibe. The high ceilings house a large hanging bird sculpture, views of the framed surfboard and cloud artwork on the second and third floor hallways, and the lobby features hardwood floors engraved with the hotel’s location.

The waterfront restaurant serves up stunning marina views and offers indoor and patio seating. The romantic terrace is beautiful with fire features, cozy sofas, and sunset vistas.

Chef Mark Gold, formerly of Eva and Chez Soi, is at the kitchen’s helm and has created a seasonal California menu.

Appetizers include Japanese Hamachi with yuzu granite, jumbo white prawn cocktail, avocado hummus, peaches and mozzarella salad, and a beet and burrata plate. Main courses include Alaskan halibut with English pea and ramps, house made zucchini ravioli, beef filet with roasted potato, seabass, Maine lobster, salmon with asparagus, and pasta with Dungeness crab.

Desserts include chocolate pot au crème, brown butter cake, lemon tart, and not to be missed, make your own s’mores.

SALT offers a great craft cocktail menu including a namesake SALT with Dobel Maestro tequila, hibiscus, Averna and lime; a rosemary martini with rosemary vodka and lime; and a La Paloma with tequila, lime, and grapefruit.

We dined at SALT for lunch and enjoyed excellent burgers and cocktails. Gorgeous sunny day with views of water and sailboats. This place is an oasis in LA. Low key hip. We’ll go back!

Outstanding views of the Marina, delicious fresh culinary-inspired food, and amazing service. We were so impressed with SALT. The avocado hummus and crudité appetizer was great, and beautifully presented. I had the airline chicken, which was cooked perfectly and again, presented beautifully. The craft cocktails were tasty and definitely worth the higher price. I can't wait to go back!

Met an old friend for cocktails which were awesome, on the lovely decking area overlooking the marina, watching the sunset. Lovely seating area with built in fire pits. Decided to stay for dinner, despite our friend’s comments about it being over priced. The clams in the chowder were over cooked but the rest was nice. The duck was lovely except for the sauce which was cold. Meatballs were great and the ravioli was excellent except for the thin, watery over salty sauce. As I finished before my husband, on both courses, my plate was cleared BEFORE he’d finished eating. The Sancerre was lovely. Overall I’d say it was trying too hard and overpriced for the standard of cooking. Just little things letting it down. I agree with other reviewers that it was very noisy too. Would recommend for cocktails but not for food.
